Hip Hop (6-9)
Mondays/Wednesdays 3:15 - 4p
Boys and girls will have so much fun dancing to their favorite music! We begin to work on demonstrating pride, team work, and respect for each other, while learning some level-appropriate choreography. Moves will be clearly broken down and explained, and practice at home will be highly encouraged. Classes will consist of conditioning exercises and proper warm-up technique prior to learning choreography. Break dancing exercises may sometimes be incorporated into the beginning of class, as well.
Tuesdays 3:15p - 4p
Jazz includes many styles of technical dance, from edgy and contemporary, to Broadway musical theater. It’s stylized, and the dancers will be encouraged to find their body awareness and personal expression. Classes will consist of conditioning exercises, warm-up, technique exercises across the floor and learning choreography that is level-specific.
Thursdays 3:15 - 4p
There is often some confusion about what is Lyrical, vs. Contemporary. For the sake of mutual understanding, here at Rise, they are basically the same. Sometimes the choreography will lean to the emotional expression of the lyrics in the song (lyrical) and utilize the technique-based aspects of ballet, jazz and modern. The students will be included in a discussion about the meaning of the music, and what the theme is for their movement that day. This style pushes the dancer to explore their feelings and demonstrate them while dancing. Taking jazz in conjunction with this class is suggested, but not necessary.
